“Graveyards of Chicago” book signing with Ursula Bielski!
Join Horrorbles on Sunday, December 15th (Noon-5pm) for a “Graveyards of Chicago” book signing with Ursula Bielski!
When the first edition of Graveyards of Chicago was published in 1999, taphophiles (cemetery enthusiasts) were still often considered “morbid” and “disturbed”. Matt Hucke and Ursula Bielski’s regional best-seller did its part in changing that, revealing cemeteries to be fascinating repositories of history, art, culture, and folklore, tranquil spots for exploration, reflection, and discovering who we are. Feeling that their original work was never finished, Hucke and Bielski have continued to deepen their knowledge of and dedication to our local burial grounds, returning with this entirely revised and updated edition almost twice as long as the first, with all new photography, and including QR codes for most cemeteries leading to additional photos and bonus material.

WildClaw Theatre Presents H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Shadow Over Innsmouth”
WildClaw Theatre presents the world premiere stage adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Shadow Over Innsmouth”. Previewing December 12th, then opening Friday, December 13th, 7:30pm at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 North Southport, Chicago, IL. Running through January 26th, 2014 with performance times Thursday thru Saturday at 7:30pm, and Sunday at 3pm.
Directed by Shade Murray, and featuring company members Steve Herson, Brian Amidei, and Ele Matelen, with Brittany Burch, Christy Arington, Mark Pracht, Jude Roche, Katey Kerman, Bob Kruse, Mary Jo Bolduc, Matt Farabee, Adam Shalzi, David Seeber, and Brady Johnson.
Small towns have big secrets. In the dead of winter, an eager young student of anthropology is pulled toward the strange and isolated village of Innsmouth, Massachusetts, where the only thing more disquieting than the furtive townsfolk is the pervasive odor of death, decay, and rotting fish in the air. Some say a pagan cult drove all of the orthodox churches out. Some say there are endless tunnels beneath the town. And some say they’ve seen devils on the reef by the light of the moon. But all who hear its name, spoken in hushed whispers throughout New England, will agree on one thing: there is a dark and sinister shadow over Innsmouth.
WildClaw is thrilled to present the World Premiere adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Shadow Over Innsmouth”. This terrifying journey of life, home and transformation continues WildClaw Theatre’s quest to bring intelligent and imaginative horror to the Chicago stage.
Shade Murray (A Red Orchid Theatre) has assembled a remarkable production team for “The Shadow Over Innsmouth”. Adapted for the stage by WildClaw Company Member Scott T. Barsotti, set design by John Ross Wilson, costume and makeup design by WildClaw Artistic Director Allison Greaves Amidei, lighting design by Heather Gilbert, and sound design by Mikey Moran and Mikhail Fiksel.
Tickets $17-$25, with student discounts available. For more information, please visit athenaeumtheatre.org or www.wildclawtheatre.com
