DEAD AMERICAN WOMAN WORLD PREMIERE

  • Posted : June 11th, 2010

Saturday, June 20, 2010 at 8:00 pm at the Portage Theater.

$7 doors open at 7pm. ADULTS ONLY.
TWO SHOWINGS: 8pm & 11pm
Film Duration: 81minutes

The lines crossed by ‘Dead American Woman’ are an index of its quality. Set in the twilight between genres – between comedy and horror, art and artless, mundane and insane – it draws on energies lost to more sensible films.
-SlasherIndexMonthly, May, 2010

From creepy comedy to poetic folk-tale to surreal horror, ‘Dead American Woman’s mood richochets between registers in a way that defies categorization, either as mind-warped outsider art, insane student project, or exploitation film gone awry.
-VideoGems/CultHits, April, 2010

As Roger Corman has said in an interview, “low-budget film-making enables filmmakers to take chances on offbeat ideas.” Well, you’d be hard pressed to find a film that thrives on the offbeat as mightily as Peter Lambert’s “Dead American Woman”.

The film does have a back story to it, and it’s an interesting one at that. I’ll forgo relaying any sort of details so you can hear them for yourself if you take a chance on going to the premiere on June 19th, 2010 at Chicago’s Portage Theater. “Dead American Woman” is an eerie, haunting little flick that plays out its absurd premise in such a way that it transcends the usual assortment of schlock fare. It occupies its particular dream world in such a way that it was possible for me to take it seriously. It’s a truly strange and unconventional horror flick. It dabbles in exploitative ingredients – there’s some tasty dollops of male and female nudity – and yet is also art, albeit art with a completely skewed sensibility.

The special effects are not too bad for a film with a microscopic budget, and Kenny Reed’s cinematography gives the film a good and atmospheric “midnight movie” quality.

The Dirty Show Makes Chicago Debut June 25 & 26 at The Viaduct Theatre

Dirty Show® Chicago (presented in part by Zodiac Vodka)

Fri. & Sat. June 25 & 26 8-1:30 Tickets: $10.00

Viaduct Theatre 3111 N. Western Ave. Chicago, IL 60618

www.dirtyshow.org

The Dirty Show®, the world infamous erotic art exhibition will make it’s Chicago debut at the Viaduct Theatre on June 25 and 26, 2010. Fine art filth, paintings, photos and sculptures – with a preference towards edgier styles and themes – will dominate the theatre’s walls. Overall, the flavor is a polysexual, from plain vanilla to a spiked cocktail of kink, so whether you are straight, gay, bi or beyond – the show is certain to have something that will empower or devour you. How dirty is it? “Skintillating” works range from “Grandma Safe” to “Somebody is Going To Burn In Hell For This”.

The exhibition, which started in Detroit eleven years ago, has become, the largest erotic art exhibition in the world, (in terms of attendance and quantity of quality art).  While the main exhibition in Detroit is every Valentine’s weekend, versions of the Dirty Show have sprung up in LA, Zurich, Sydney, Miami, and Vancouver. In addition to the closed-door art on the walls, The Dirty Show also features live in-your-face performance art – from bent burlesque dances to head-scratching contemporary think pieces.

Over 69 internationally renowned artists will exhibit, including Oscar winning Swiss surrealist HR Giger, best selling Taschen author Eric Kroll, horror icon Clive Barker and new contemporary contenders such as Steve Canaday and Gregory De Haba (whose piece is based on his controversial Art Basal installation). Criminally popular new artists, those Juxtapoz Magazine regulars such as Shawn Barber, Glenn Barr, Lisa Pettrucci and Colin Christian also contribute work, along with top eroticists Rick Castro, Steve Diet Goedde, Justice Howard, Frederic Fontenoy and Viva Van Story gracing every square inch of available wall space and then some.

For The Dirty Show’s Chicago debut, a number of local artists will also be spotlighted in the exhibit. “Chicago has amazing pool of talent. We are amazed at the work from the Second City artists who are contributing to this exhibition,” says Jerry Vile, the show’s creator. “This isn’t a show for everyone. Some might consider some of the pieces pornographic, but fortunately, they aren’t the kind of people that are going to attend. Those looking for porn might also be disappointed, it is more about the execution than the subject matter.”

The Dirty Show is sponsored in part by Zodiac Vodka.  Zodiac Vodka is American made luxury potato vodka.  The smooth tasting vodka is gluten free and now available in regular and Black Cherry.

With “cherry popping” drink specials from Zodiac Vodka, plus other surprises – this is a weekend of erotic art that patrons won’t soon forget!
